Scripture of the day: "As a result of this many of His disciples withdrew and were not walking with Him anymore. So Jesus said to the twelve, 'You do not want to go away also, do you?' Simon Peter answered Him, 'Lord, to whom shall we go? You have words of eternal life. We have believed and have come to know that You are the Holy One of God.'" John 6:66-69
Thought of the day: The crowds longed for His miracles. A free meal had intensified their devotion. Then Jesus spoke of eating His flesh and drinking His blood. It wasn't what they expected. The crowd's enthusiasm disintegrated ... and many of His peripheral disciples withdrew from following Him. I can imagine the twelve disciples casting curious glances at each other to see if there would be any desertions from their inner circle. Then Jesus brought them to the moment of decision by asking, "You do not want to go away also, do you?"
Challenge of the day: Is Jesus coming back soon? Do you believe that we are in the last days? In the last days there will be an increase in apostasy ... many will fall away. Would we walk away with the multitudes who withdraw from Him in the last days? When the going gets tough, would we walk away? How would we answer if He asked, "You do not want to go away also, do you?" Would we say, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have words of eternal life. We have believed and have come to know that You are the Holy One of God."
