Scripture of the day:  "For everyone who partakes only of milk is not accustomed to the word of righteousness, for he is an infant. But solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to discern good and evil." Hebrews 5:13-14

Thought of the day:  Spiritual milk is good for spiritual infants ... for those who are not accustomed to the "word of righteousness". These infants, from the context of the verses, are older believers who have atrophied back into spiritual infancy. They were mature ... but then reverted to immaturity. They atrophied to being unskilled and inexperienced in the Word. Solid food is for those who maintain their maturity by continuing to grow ... and by practicing what they learn.

Challenge of the day:  Verse 14 could be paraphrased as "But solid spiritual food is for spiritual adults, who because of use have their spiritual understanding vigorously exercised to discern good and evil." We must move on to the solid food of the deeper things of the Word. However, studying is not enough. We must also put into practice what we learn ... vigorously exercising our understanding. If we don't, atrophy will begin. Take this one phrase with you today: Use it or lose it!
