March 3

Scripture of the day:  "On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there; and both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding. When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to Him, 'They have no wine.' And Jesus said to her, 'Woman, what does that have to do with us? My hour has not yet come.'" John 2:1-4

Thought of the day:  We know little about this poorly planned wedding or its thirsty guests. We know that the servants obeyed Mary ... maybe it was a family wedding. We know that Jesus and His disciples were invited guests. They had not been excluded by being too sanctimonious. Nor were they too busy to attend. And isn't it interesting that His first miracle was in a celebration of marriage?

Challenge of the day:  "My hour has not yet come." That was a pivotal statement repeated in John 7:6, 7:30, and 8:20. When did His hour come? Jesus later said, "The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified ... for this purpose I came to this hour. Father, glorify Your name." John 12:23-28. That hour was His departure out of this world, John 13:1. That hour should define our lives. His last words before leaving were, "You shall be My witnesses" Acts 1:8. Are you multiplying His message? Jesus said, "My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be My disciples." John 15:8. Are you bearing fruit? Are you glorifying the Father?
