February 16

Scripture of the day:  "Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near." Hebrews 10:23-25

Thought of the day:  God's promises are trustworthy because He is totally faithful. He is unwavering ... therefore, we should be unwavering. We should "hold fast the confession of our hope". Hope is a better translation than faith in this verse. Hope is our joyful expectation of all that God has promised. The "confession" of our hope is the profession of our hope. Think about other believers ... consider how to provoke them to "love and good deeds".

Challenge of the day:  Hold a steady course on the profession of your hope. Think about your fellow-believers. Provoke them to obedience. Don't try to live the Christian life alone. You need other believers ... and they need you. And the world needs our corporate profession of hope. Don't think that "assembling together" is accomplished simply by attendance. If God asks you about Hebrews 10:25 when you get to Heaven, don't show Him your church attendance awards. Holding fast the profession of our hope is not easy. Therefore, encourage and strengthen one another. Be fervent in this. The day of His return is drawing near.
