March 13

Scripture of the day:  "After these things Jesus went away to the other side of the Sea of Galilee (or Tiberias). A large crowd followed Him, because they saw the signs which He was performing on those who were sick. Then Jesus went up on the mountain, and there He sat down with His disciples. Now the Passover, the feast of the Jews, was near. Therefore Jesus, lifting up His eyes and seeing that a large crowd was coming to Him, said to Philip, 'Where are we to buy bread, so that these may eat?' This He was saying to test him, for He Himself knew what He was intending to do." John 6:1-6

Thought of the day:  Jesus was about to miraculously feed the five thousand. He knew exactly what He would do ... no trip to the bakery was needed. In your mind, picture Jesus lifting up His eyes to look at the multitude walking toward Him. Imagine Him turning his gaze from the crowd to Philip ... asking, "Where are we to buy bread, so that these may eat?" I imagine Philip responding, "Me? Who me? You're asking me? I don't know. Peter, come over here ... you always have an answer."

Challenge of the day:  Jesus is God ... and already knows everything. He never asks a question to get information. Jesus asked Philip to test him. Philip was the one who needed information. Is Jesus testing you? What question is He asking you today? He already knows the answer. What are you learning from His test?
